A one-page service and repair contract for the small residential call: $750 or less, customer called you, you fix only what they called about, and you take no money until the work is done. Every heading and notice B&P 7159.10 prescribes is in place in the statute's words and type sizes, including the buyer-signed Notice to the Buyer and YOUR RIGHTS TO CANCEL BEFORE WORK BEGINS, plus the CSLB notice B&P 7030(b) requires. The rule
A service and repair contract exists only if all four conditions hold: contract amount $750 or less, buyer initiated contact, no goods or services beyond what the problem reasonably requires, and no payment due or accepted until the work is completed (B&P 7159.10(a)). If any one fails, the full home improvement contract rules of 7159(c)-(e) apply regardless of price (7159.10(b)). The contract must be in the language of the sales presentation, signed and dated by both before work starts, and carry the 12-point notices of 7159.10(e) and the CSLB notice of 7030(b).
Why it matters
The service call is most of a new electrical contractor's week, and the $750 form is the only way to take that work legally without a full home improvement contract. It is also a trap: quote $760, take a deposit, or upsell a surge protector, and the short form becomes a non-compliant long one. This template keeps you inside the four walls and gives the customer a document that reads like a professional wrote it.
